JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Compounding Certified Pharmacy Technician
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Lab Pharmacist or Pharmacist covering the lab
INDIVIDUALS SUPERVISED: 0
FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible in working collaboratively with other compounding pharmacy technicians to make all the compounds requested (that are not commercially available) under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF THE JOB:
1. Receive all prescriptions that need to be compounded, print a formula for it, weigh the chemicals included in the formula and then combine the chemicals into the appropriate dosage form as requested by the prescription, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
2. Properly use all equipment in the lab that is necessary to make the compound.
3. Wash and sterilize dishes after use
4. Unpacking of chemical orders and checking certificates of analysis for activity
5. Daily recording of refrigerator and freezer temps where chemicals are stored

- Calibration and proper documentation of scales, electronic meters, etc.
- Routinely checking for outdated or soon to expire chemicals
- Follow all safety and USP guidelines for preparation of compounded medications
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
· High School diploma or equivalent
· Current CPhT license and state licensure in good standing
· At least 2 year of retail pharmacy in a compounding setting experience preferred
· Compounding experience strongly preferred but not required
· Strong math skills are essential
· Must have the ability to work in a fast past environment with little assistance from the Pharmacist or other Pharmacy Technicians
· Must be capable of working with small, delicate pieces of expensive machinery to complete appropriate dosage forms in a timely manner
· Must be capable of wearing all protective wear as required by State Board of Pharmacy. This includes, but not limited to; mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.
· Must have knowledge of basic principles, theories and laws, policies and procedures that pertain to compounding
· Upon completion of lab training, the technician must be able to pass Compounding Exam with a score of 75%.
· Exhibit punctuality and low absenteeism
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm
· Majority of time is spent in the laboratory
· Minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals
· Exposure to chemicals used in the preparation of compounds (some chemicals are classified as toxic and special safety precautions must be taken when working with these chemicals)
· Some traveling to attend continuing education seminars regarding compounding of medications.
· Must be able to stand for long periods of time
· Must be able to sit in front of computer for long periods of time
· Must be able to wear required compounding safety equipment for long periods of time when required
