Pharmacist
Job Description:
Under general direction, a Pharmacist performs professional pharmaceutical duties for the San Francisco Department of Public Health to assure quality patient care, appropriate drug therapy and compliance with all applicable regulations. Essential functions include: reviewing, processing and dispensing medication orders and prescriptions; monitoring drug therapy for appropriateness, contraindications, interactions, adverse effects and therapeutic/toxic dosing; preparing and/or supervising the preparation of pharmaceuticals for dispensing; effectively communicating drug information and/or medication counseling to patients and other health care personnel; performing quality assurance by conducting drug use evaluations and medication area inspections; maintaining and supervising support personnel; orienting and training hospital personnel, students, residents and others; and maintaining professional competency in pharmacy practice. The Pharmacist also performs related duties as required.
Positions are located at San Francisco General Hospital & Trauma Center (SFGH). All positions are to provide comprehensive inpatient pharmacy services (e.g. IV admixture, unit dose drug distribution), with one exception. One position is for a pharmacist to coordinate and manage pharmacy computer systems and serve as the liaison to the hospital’s Information Technology Department. Shifts may be days, evenings, or nights. Weekends, and/or holiday shifts may be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a valid Registered Pharmacist license issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
