Job Description
  • Interpret and transcribe written drug orders/prescriptions and obtain immediate clarification when necessary. Monitor and/or review drug regimens for possible drug interactions and allergies and respond accordingly in a professional manner to other members of the medical staff in a means to remedy the circumstances. Accurately prepare and/or supervise the preparation and dispensing of drug orders/prescriptions in a timely manner. Supervise and remain accountable for drug orders and floor stock supplies prepared by the Pharmacy Technicians. Monitor and maintain a reasonable and consistent drug inventory agreeable with the practices of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Pharmacy Department Manager. Provide drug information to the medical and hospital staff as well as to the community when required. Assist the Pharmacy Department Manager in Quality Assurance monitoring and data collection, or any other duties as necessary. Assists in the functions associated with JCAHO accreditation.

    Requirements: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with the Bachelor of Science or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. Completion of a Clinical/General Pharmacy Residency program or Pharmacy related Fellowship desirable. Maintain Continuing Pharmaceutical Education Requirements for licensure in the State of California. Must possess a current license to practice pharmacy in the State of California. Knowledge of medication use in its relation to human physiology and specific disease states, as they would exist through patient chart review. Must be able utilize pharmacy/medical terminology and knowledge of contemporary hospital pharmacy practice. A working knowledge of IV admixture, outpatient dispensing, computer processing, unit-dose, and drug information is preferred.
