JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Director
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director of Pharmacy Operations
INDIVIDUALS SUPERVISED: Supervises all pharmacy support staff
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of the Pharmacy Director is to manage all of the clinical programs administered by The Apothecary Shops. Although the Pharmacy Director is ultimately responsible for the oversight of the dispensing process, it is not an expectation of the Pharmacy Director to perform pre-pharmacist verification dispensing functions. The Pharmacy Director is also the designated Pharmacist in Charge (PIC). The PIC will mentor and develop a process of dispensing of medication to patients according to their physician’s order with highest attention to accuracy and patient education and awareness.
In addition to the role of a Pharmacist, the PIC ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for a single pharmacy and supervises professional, technical, and support staff; and performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF THE JOB
- Provides pharmacy services to patient and medical practitioners. Counsels patients and medical practitioners regarding the nature and us of drugs, and trains and/or supervises pharmacy interns.
- Oversees the preparation and dispensing of prescription medications to patients or medical practitioners.
- Oversees the preparation of all necessary records on prescriptions, patient charges and inventory.
- Follows established policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- Provides guidance, training and supervision to pharmacy interns and technicians during course of work and monitors performance
- Documents and reports medication errors and quality related events.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree
- Pharmacy license in good standing in the state in which they are practicing
- The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Provides guidance, training and supervision to pharmacy interns and technicians during course of work and monitors performance
- Knowledge of the use, clinical effects, and composition of drugs, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties
- Ability to supervise support staff and ensure an efficient work flow
- Ability to work accurately in a fast paced environment
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

TYPICAL WORK CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/retail environment.
Moderate physical activity
Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds
Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of times (8 hours or more)
Must be able to work in front of computer for long periods of time
Minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals
