JOB TITLE: Certified Pharmacy Technician-Float
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Pharmacy Manager
INDIVIDUALS SUPERVISED: 0
FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, prepares, packages, and distributes medications; performs clerical duties related to the operation of a pharmacy; and performs other related duties as required. This position is also responsible for making various dosage forms of compounded medication (prescriptions that are not commercially available) under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and following USP guidelines. Provide pharmacy technician coverage at various Apothecary Shop locations as needed according to schedule provided. This position will also require traveling out of state to assist with the opening of new locations.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF THE JOB
- Selects drugs from stock for preparation; counts, pours, or mixes pharmaceuticals; places pharmaceutical products in appropriate containers and affixes labels to containers; packages and repackages pharmaceuticals to other clinics
- Monitors prescription inventory for expired pharmaceuticals that must be returned to manufacturer
- Ability to properly train new employees on Apothecary Shop front end and compounding procedures
- Receives prescriptions and obtains information from patients at pharmacy window to determine insurance eligibility; using a computerized system, enters prescription data to create a patient profile
- Answers telephones and takes messages for patient refill requests and related pharmacy business
- Helps to maintain the pharmacy in a clean and orderly condition
- Provides excellent customer service to all patients and medical professionals via phone or in person
- Ability to preserve confidentiality of protected health information (PHI)
- May be assigned to maintenance of pharmacy filing systems (hard copy, signature logs, invoices).
- May be assigned to prepare and track delivery instructions and invoices to assist delivery staff and common carriers responsible for home or office delivery
- Willingness to become licensed in multiple states at the company’s expense
- Ability to travel out of state to work at various Apothecary Shop location when requested
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- National certification and state licensure current and in good standing
- Current state licensure in each state employee will be assigned to work
- A minimum of one year of retail pharmacy experience
- Compounding experience preferred
- Bilingual a plus
- Strong customer service skills
- Professional demeanor and courteous attitude
- Knowledge of basic computer operations
- General knowledge of pharmacy laws, practices and procedures
- Knowledge of brand name drugs and their generic equivalents
- Knowledge of common medical terms/abbreviations and pharmacy calculations
- Knowledge of insurance and third-party billing systems
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work in front of a computer screen
- Knowledge of pharmacy law for each state
- Ability to welcome and train new pharmacy technicians
- Possess a professional appearance and excellent interpersonal communication skills
