Description
This position supervises pharmacists, pharmacist technicians and support personnel working in the dispensing area of the pharmacy to ensure that patient medications are dispensed accurately, efficiently, and timely and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and DaVita policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive.
· Verify the accuracy and appropriateness of verbal and or written prescriptions, prior to dispensing the medication or other pharmaceuticals accurately.
· Review entered prescriptions for completeness, accuracy and clinical appropriateness.
· Dispense patient medication in compliance with all state and federal laws
· Fill all prescriptions in compliance with physician's orders provided by DaVita clinics via fax or telephone
· Medication Therapy Management reviews with patients via phone or in person when local and feasible.
· Maintain knowledge of DaVita Rx policies and procedures and apply them consistently
· Maintain knowledge of Pharmacy rules and government regulations and dispense medications in compliance with both
· Hire, train and supervise Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and other DaVita Rx teammates who work in the prescription dispensing area
· Oversee all prescription dispensing activities including OptiFill machine, manual filling, pre-packaging, inventory control and security, pharmacist inspection, packaging and shipping.
· Implement and maintain continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives throughout the entire dispensing process
· Set and monitor performance goals for teammates and automated filling equipment
· Demonstrate "leadership by example" in projecting a positive attitude and involvement in DaVita Rx teammate activities
· Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to:
· Know, understand, implement, and follow DaVita Rx teammate policies and procedures
· Coordinate daily work of pharmacy back end processing team to ensure all patient enrollments are processed in accordance with established internal SLAs (Service Level Agreements)
· Oversee and/or support special strategic projects, as assigned.
· Design, create, update, maintain, and distribute to all necessary reports which provide insight into the performance of the fulfillment teams.
· Be the "Go-To" Person and point of contact for DaVita Rx and the broader Village for all issues related to Speedway pharmacy dispensing processes including continuous improvement and root cause/problem resolution.
· Responsible for communicating regularly to key stakeholder to ensure that volume of work is properly balanced.
· Strong project management skills enabling the candidate to organize, scope, measure using fact based information, and implement improvements to improve back end processing and other key company objectives as assigned.
· Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules and tasks to ensure continuation of patient service expectations in accordance with the company's service level agreements.
· Optimize back end processes to reduce waste and ensure that processing of prescriptions can scale as the business grows (e.g. handling, waiting, process distance, etc.)
· Attend and/or lead staff meetings, teleconferences, and education activities as requested.
· Arrange for periodic 1:1 teammate meetings to provide/collect feedback from all teammates
Qualifications
· B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm.D degree required
· Current Florida pharmacist license in good standing required. Other state licensure preferred.
· Minimum of two years experience as a supervisor in a mail service pharmacy strongly preferred
· Minimum of five years experience as pharmacist with mail service pharmacy experience strongly preferred
· Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook required; ability to learn and use proficiently DaVita Rx proprietary software required
