Job Description:
 

The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, implementing, evaluating, recruiting staff, retaining staff, directing, budgeting and controlling the provision of services for the Pharmacy Department.  Participates in Medication Management processes through collaborative teamwork, interaction, and sharing with administration, physicians, nurses, department managers, and other team members.  Responsible for contributing to safe medication management where Pharmacy contributes to the process: including: selection, procurement, storage, ordering, transcribing, preparing, dispensing and monitoring medications.  Directs hiring process and makes recommendations to management and staff for making the department successful. Sets goals, acts as the leader for P & T Committee and make recommendations in a collaborative team approach to accomplish organizations goals. Views responsibilities and functions as running a business with goal of improving patient's outcomes. Includes a global view of operations related to supplies, materials, staff, equipment and other support tools needed for the success of the " whole team" and the organization.  Participation in the Quality Improvement process is also expected  
Statement Of Purpose:
 
The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the efficient operation of the hospital pharmacy. The Director establishes standards of quality, productivity and performance in accordance with the Medical Center policies and procedures and requirements of State and Federal regulatory agencies. Will adhere to the Mission, Values, and Culture of the Medical Center. 
 
Qualifications:
 
Licensure: The Director of Pharmacy must be currently licensed by the Board of Pharmacy to practice pharmacy in the State.
 
Education:  Graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education. Advanced Degree (PharmD or MBA) preferred.
 
Experience:  Minimum of 2-5 years Hospital Management or Director level experience.  Additional business and or clinical experience or background preferred. 
 
Skills:  Has good skills in team building, human relations, organizational, critical thinking and communication skills, in a detail-oriented, multi-tasks, customer- focused organizational manner. Manages stress appropriately and can make decisions under pressure.  Can handle multiple priorities, is self directed and motivated to be a team organizer and leader.  Willingness and skills to direct activities through completion of planned projects. 
 
Major Tasks / Responsibilities / Duties:
 
·         Coordinates and supervises department operation.
·         Develops and maintains pharmacy services in accordance with State and Federal regulations, accepted standards, professional practices and hospital policies.
·         Creates and maintains job description and completes annual performance reviews on all employees in a timely manner. 
·         Assists administration with the annual budget and submits capital expenditures requests per policy.
·         Reviews and revises Policy and Procedure manual annually.
·         Initiates and implements Quality Improvement for the department.
·         Selects, orientates, supervises, instructs and dismisses departmental personnel.
·         Responsible for the planning, supervision, coordination and successful execution of all activities related to the pharmacy’s operations.
·         Develops and maintains pharmacy services in accordance with State and Federal rules, regulations, accepted standards, professional practices and hospital policies. 
·         Supervises departmental personnel including: hiring, orientation, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring, scheduling and evaluating performance, and initiative corrective and disciplinary actions. 
·         Prepares and dispenses medicines, chemicals and pharmaceutical preparations according to written orders by authorized medical practitioners with clinical privileges.
