Currently, Meijer is looking for a Pharmacy Compliance Director. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for working with Retail Operations, Legal, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Marketing, Third Party Administration, Information Technology Services and Regulatory Agencies to facilitate full and complete compliance with pharmacy regulatory requirements and privacy obligations. The incumbent in this position will have the authority to reach across department lines to make final decisions regarding pharmacy compliance, conduct training, implement corrective action, develop policies and procedures and represent the company's position on pharmacy regulatory matters. The individual will also act as privacy officer for protected health information.
Anticipate, identify and assess risk exposure related to pharmacy compliance and privacy requirements. Act as an independent evaluator to ensure that alleged compliance violations, issues or concerns are appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved. Monitor, and as necessary, coordinate compliance activities of multiple departments to remain informed of and document the status of alleged violations, issues or concerns and to identify trends. Identify potential areas of corporate vulnerability and risk; develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of more problematic issues and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
Participate in or lead cross-functional Pharmacy and compliance project teams to independently manage and document all aspects of one or more projects that are tactical or strategic in nature. Develop project plans in conjunctions with the Business Sponsor or the Chief Compliance Officer to include project plans and schedules. Conceptualize, create and maintain reporting required or as defined by Retail Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Regulatory Agencies or the Chief Compliance Officer.
Review and evaluate vendors, vendor products and services for compliance with pharmacy regulatory or privacy obligations. Identify internal and external resources that support development of the compliance program. Deliver or facilitate training for audiences at all levels of the Company. Work on other special projects as assigned.
Key responsibilities include:
- Incorporating compliance into the overall pharmacy strategy and culture
- Serving as an independent and objective body for pharmacy and privacy compliance issues and concerns
- Monitoring and interpreting regulatory regulations, rules and guidance to coordinate changes and updates to protocols, in order to establish or maintain compliance for all pharmacy operations, systems or data infrastructure, merchandising and warehousing; maintain appropriate records for pharmacy compliance or privacy requirements
- Planning, directing, controlling, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the development, implementation, communication, and administration of pharmacy policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory statues, rules and regulations, in addition to compliance with internal pharmacy and compliance policies
- Ensuring all pharmacy business practices, infrastructure, systems and standards of conduct are compliant with governmental statues, rules and regulations as may relate to pharmacy, privacy or other compliance programs
- Providing subject matter expertise and guidance to pharmacy technology and systems initiatives and processes that address regulatory pharmacy or privacy standards and programs
- Collaborating with business areas to direct pharmacy or privacy compliance issues to appropriate channels for investigations and resolution
- Collaborating and providing cross-functional leadership with internal business and support units (Retail Operations, Loss Prevention, Supply Chain, Merchandising, Information Technology Services, Environmental, Product Safety, Government Relations, Human Resources and Internal Audit) in the development, implementation and monitoring of appropriate compliance policies and procedures, in order to enable current and future business initiatives and activities
- Developing, implementing and monitoring of regulatory and compliance training, communication or awareness plans related to pharmacy compliance or privacy
- Pharmacy subject matter expert for Federal, State and local regulatory and policy developments; subject matter expert for industry pharmacy and privacy regulatory laws, rules and regulations
- Interacting with and managing activities with regulatory agencies and law enforcement concerning pharmacy or privacy regulatory laws, rules and regulations
- Leading and contributing to the design, development, implementation and administration of privacy and compliance programs, policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Pharmacist or Pharm D from an accredited College of Pharmacy
- Licensed and in good standing with State Board of Pharmacy for at least one of the following states: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky or Wisconsin
- At least five years experience as a practicing Pharmacist
- At least three years experience in Pharmacy leadership or management role in a corporate setting
- Experience in compliance function for a retailer, regulated industry or regulatory government function including working with authorities and responding to government inspections or investigations
- Extensive knowledge of pharmacy operations, including privacy requirements - privacy laws, rules and regulations
- Demonstrated success in working complex issues with senior pharmacy teams by utilizing highly developed project management skills
- Effective communication skills in both written and direct interpersonal form with all levels of the organization
- Working knowledge of pharmacy dispensing systems and critical interfaces with other corporate systems
- Ability to lead and address diverse groups at all levels of the organizations to achieve a culture of regulatory compliance; proven ability to independently problem solve, analyze and assess at all levels of the organization
- Experience working across a matrix organization and influencing others without a formal reporting relationship
- Experience managing projects indirectly across client and operational organizations, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work to other members of a project team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively work with time and pressure constraints
- Ability to research and interpret regulations and to consult with in-house counsel to resolve difficult legal or regulatory pharmacy compliance issues
