Job Description
 
Job Summary:

Assists in the technical aspects of the distribution of medications and related functions, with the ability to perform routine tasks independently, to aid in the delivery of patient care.

PERFORMS LIMITED PHARMACY SERVICES AND DUTIES UNDER THE CLOSE SUPERVISION OF THE PHARMACIST AND/OR UPPER LEVEL TECHNICIAN.

*Assists in maintaining pharmacy drug stock by regularly checking for products that are outdated and/or low in inventory level; communicates immediately with the pharmacist when inventory levels are low.

*Enters medication orders from doctors' order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, ensuring that the correct product is dispensed and that the dosage form and charge quantity are in accordance with formulary; enters correct billing data.

*Assists with the essential functions related to drug purchasing and inventory control in an appropriate manner as needed.

*Assists in pharmacy secretarial and/or clerical duties to the best of their ability as required.

*Labels medications appropriately for patient use.

PERFORMS DELIVERY AND STOCKING DUTIES TO ENSURE PROPER DRUG DISTRIBUTION.

*Delivers medication appropriately to patients, and delivers delivery carts to floors daily.

*Stocks, cleans and faces prescription and OTC shelves in the appropriate manner.

WORKS TO CONTRIBUTE TO A QUALITY WORK ENVIRONMENT.

*Communicates with relevant personnel regarding drug distribution in a courteous and prompt manner.

*Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly, and fully stocked work environment in accordance with established policies and procedures.

*Answers incoming phone calls and responds to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate person for service in a professional manner.

*Attends all mandatory technical staff meetings.

PERFORMS SPECIAL DUTIES OF UPPER LEVEL TECHNICIAN FOR DEVELOPMENTAL PURPOSES.

*Assists in the orientation process of new technicians as directed by the upper level technician.

*Participates in team programs as directed by the upper level technician.

*Functions as a Team Leader in regard to scheduling, supervising and leadership in the Team Leader's absence, and does so in a professional manner.

DIVISION 20:

COMPOUNDS EXTEMPORANEOUS MEDICATIONS FOR DISPENSING, CART FILL AND STERILE PREPARATION.

*Determines the appropriate formula for drug to be compounded, and weighs and measures needed amounts with 100% accuracy.

*Compounds or admixes ingredients appropriately under the supervision of the pharmacist.

*Packages medication in proper amount and containers, and labels appropriately with a label for the drug and the log book.

PERFORMS IV ADMIXTURES, USING ASEPTIC TECHNIQUES, TO PROVIDE QUALITY PHARMACY SERVICE.

*Admixes small and large volume solutions, syringes and irrigation solutions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

*Prepares parenteral nutrition solutions and labels them appropriately.

*Reconciles IV information sheet appropriately and promptly.

PROCESSES ORDERS FOR STOCK MEDICATION FROM UNITS OR CLINIC AREAS IN ORDER TO ENSURE GOOD PHARMACY SERVICE IS PROVIDED.

*Fills hall or clinic stock requisitions with correct medications in a prompt manner.

*Charges bulk items with 100% accuracy.

*Codes medication administration records with appropriate code and in a prompt manner.

*Loads and refills Pyxis medication as needed and in an appropriate manner.

RETAIL PHARMACY:

PERFORMS LIMITED PHARMACY SERVICES AND DUTIES UNDER THE CLOSE SUPERVISION OF THE PHARMACIST.

*Assists in maintaining pharmacy drug stock by regularly checking for products that are outdated and/or low in inventory level; communicates immediately with the appropriate personnel when inventory levels are low.

*Accurately delivers medication to patients using proper processes and procedures.

*Assists with the essential functions related to drug purchasing and inventory control in an appropriate manner as needed.
Assists with pharmacy clerical duties to the best of their ability as required.

*Labels medications appropriately for patient use.

WORKS TO CONTRIBUTE TO A QUALITY WORK ENVIRONMENT.

*Communicates with relevant personnel regarding drug distribution in a courteous and prompt manner.

*Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly, and fully stocked work environment in accordance with established policies and procedures.

*Stock, cleans and faces prescriptions and OTC shelves in the appropriate manner.

PERFORMS OTHER POSITION APPROPRIATE DUTIES AS REQUIRED IN A COMPETENT, PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS MANNER.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY:

*Graduate of ASHP approved/accredited pharmacy technician training program.
